Our deep, human connection with the ocean is undeniable; it offers us peace, adventure, inspiration.
But for all of us—for every living thing—the ocean also what makes life possible: we rely on the ocean for 50% of our oxygen and much of the food we eat. And because the ocean absorbs 30% of our CO2 emissions and the excess heat our emissions generate, it’s also our greatest ally against climate change.
But we’ve pushed our oceans too far and failed to protect them enough. Pollution, overfishing and rising emissions are jeopardizing all the ocean gives us—as well as the survival of countless ocean species, from whales and sea turtles to oysters and corals.
